Choose Wellness -- Feb/09
February 11, 2009
Greetings all

...and a very big Welcome to those of you who are receiving your first copy of 'Choose Wellness'. I look forward to a long & friendly association with you all.

What a sad week this has been for Australia.

While much of the North has been inundated with flooding rains with many people losing their homes and/or possessions and millions of gallons of water running out to sea, in Victoria to the South many people have lost their lives, and their homes, as whole townships have been burnt to the ground in the worst bush fires ever. Australia is reeling under the enormity of the devastation that has occurred.

Words can’t describe how it must be for those families who’ve been impacted by one of the worst natural disasters our Nation has faced in living memory. A time to reflect on just how fortunate we are for what we have and to think about just how much we have to be grateful for. I'm sure we can all find many, many things in our lives to be grateful about.

The Australian people have responded, as people always seem to do at these times, to help out those in need and have very quickly donated to the Red Cross' Victorian Bushfire Disaster Relief Appeal. If you would like to add your donation, you can do it here.

Don't forget Valentine's Day on Saturday

Have you ever wondered just why we celebrate such a day?

Apparently.... Long before anybody had heard of Saint Valentine, mid-February was looked forward to as an exciting time for lovers.

From 400 years BC, Roman citizens held a popular yearly sweepstake as an act of worship to their god Lupercus. Young women's names were put into a box and then picked at random by eager young men. The couples thus selected were then legally paired for the next twelve months.

Six centuries later, the soldier-emperor Claudius II banned young males from getting married -- because he took it into his head that unattached youths made better soldiers.

An early Christian priest, Valentine, didn't agree with his Emperor and continued to marry young couples in secret until Claudius dicovered his disloyalty and after imprisoning him, eventually had him brutally executed on February 24th, 270.

The story goes that while he was locked up, Valentine fell madly in love with the daughter of his jailer and when he was finally taken to be killed, he wrote her a message signed, 'From your Valentine.'.....

You can read the rest of the story here.

So ... Happy Valentine's Day to you.

No Limits

I hope you will enjoy this verse from Ralph Marston via Martin Avis

  • There is no limit to the kindness you can offer.
  • There is no limit to the encouragement you can give.
  • There is no limit to the hope you can feel.
  • There is no limit to the amount of faith you can have.
  • There is no limit on how positive you can be.
  • There is no limit to the magnificence of what you can create with your thoughts and actions.
  • There is no limit on the love you can give, nor is there any limit on the love you can experience.
  • The things of true value and substance in life have no limits.
  • They are yours to experience in every moment, in any circumstance, no matter what others may say or do.
  • Some limits are imposed upon you by the world in which you live. Other limits, you impose upon yourself.
  • Of the things that truly matter, however, there are no limits.
  • Experience them in abundance and let them fill your life with joy.
