A Recipe for You

I've always loved flicking through recipe books but have never been great in the 'cake' department, though I do usually manage to whip up a basic chocolate cake for special celebrations. This year as a New year treat I tried a 'Semolina & Yogurt Lemon Syrup Cake' which I found in the Australian Women's Weekly. I've always been an avid reader (& puzzle doer) of the Weekly and love their recipes. The cake was such a hit that my Granddaughter requested I make it for her 10th birthday instead of the usual Chocolate cake.

I thought it might be fun to include an occasional recipe in my newsletter so here is "Semolina and Yogurt Lemon Syrup Cake from the Australian Women's Weekly's Cheap Eats.

  • 250g butter
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon rind
  • 1 cup (220g) caster sugar
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup (150g) self-raising flour
  • 1 cup (160g) semolina
  • 1 cup (280g) yogurt
  • 1 cup (220g) caster sugar
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) lemon juice
  1. Preheat oven to 180 C (160 fan-forced) Grease and flor a 20cm fluted ring pan (or deep 19cm round cake pan), shaking away any excess flour.
  2. Beat butter, rind and sugar with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks; stir in flour, semolina and yogurt.
  3. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; fold into cake mixture, in two batches. Spread mixture into pan; bake for about 50minutes.
  4. LEMON SYRUP: Combine ingredients in a small saucepan; stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil without stirring; remove from heat.
  5. Let cake stand for 5 minutes; turn out on to plate. Pierce cake all over with skewer and pour the hot Lemon Syrup over the hot cake.

DubLi Expansion

The excitement builds as DubLi prepares for take-off in Australia.

March will see the opening of a huge new shopping portal, in addition to the Reverse and the Unique Bid Auctions that are already operating. With the opening of the new shopping mall, we will see hundreds of new products available from our favourite stores - all at a discount if you are a DubLi customer.

If you haven't already registered as a customer, make sure you do it soon. It's free.

Use some of those free credits I sent, to check out the prices. (Get back to me if you don't know your voucher number.) From March as the Global Portal gets underway, people all over the world will be able to purchase products and have them delivered wherever they are in the world - so, if you live in Australia, you'll be buying from Australian stores and delivery will be easy.

Listen here to the Founder of DubLi as he talks about worldwide business trends.

Feeling Good

By following simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace.

Dr. Phil proclaimed, "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished."

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos and a box of chocolates.

You have NO idea how good I feel right now.

Remember that I love to receive your questions, comments or requests and I'd love to receive your favourite recipe, so please contact me if you have anything you'd like to contribute or any questions.

Until then keep well and remember

'healthy cells = healthy bodies'

'be well ... bHip'

'happy shopping'
