Choose Wellness -- Sep 2011
September 04, 2011
Greetings, best wishes

... and welcome everyone to this latest Choose Wellness Newsletter with a special mention to all the Dads out there as we celebrate 'Fathers Day'. What would we do without them?

I wonder if anyone even noticed that there has been no 'Choose Wellness' from me for many weeks now. If you are receiving anywhere near the number of emails that keep flooding into my 'inbox' every day, you'll probably be pleased to have one less. Because of this, and the fact that I am 'slowing down', I have decided to to send out a mailing just 'every now and then' in the future.

I have spent very little time at the computer over the last few months as other things have been getting in the way.

We went to Townsville, as we like to do in the winter months, to house-sit for our very good friend Sue while she had a holiday in Europe. We were to be there for about six weeks but stayed on, and on... for about 10 weeks in all. There is always a lot to keep us occupied in Townsville so we enjoy being there - especially in winter!

Geoff is a member of the Townsville Gem & Mineral Club and found it so much easier to get to the Club there than it is to get to the Mt Gravatt Club that he belongs to in Brisbane. (Traffic in Townsville is so..o easy compared to Brisbane). He was able to get started on a Silversmithing Course and to learn some 'faceting' and is starting to put together some really nice pieces of jewellery - Family members can expect to receive polished stones and gems set in silver for forthcoming birthdays.

I was able to spend time helping Katelyn in her Studio/Shop. She has been incredibly busy and her business is all coming together nicely. It was great to be able to make myself useful. While I was there she completed a huge project for a new Convention/Reception centre in Townsville - providing large felt 'chandeliers?' for the ceiling lights and a wonderful backlit felt panel around the bar. It looked fabulous and the accolades have been pouring in.

She recently took part in the Merceded-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane and you can see her latest collection by clicking the link. The silk used is her own design which she first makes as a large felt piece. It is photographed and then printed on to the silk (at great expense!)

Making Felt

The art of making felt has been a passion for Katelyn since her discovery of the ancient craft 15 years ago. She has been crafting and creating beautiful designs of hand dyed and hand felted wool since that first day,

If you maybe like the idea of getting your hands all wet & soapy and giving yourself a good workout at the same time, you may be interested in the excellent 'how to' video Katelyn has recently produced which is available on DVD for just $50.

She shares her tips for basic felt making as she goes through the process of how to make several different felt products. The DVD contains all the information you need to create your own felt scarf, a flower, a ball, a bag and a teacosy.

The instructional projects are made for a wide range of audiences from the young and beginners to those who have already learnt the basics.

If you'd like a copy of the DVD you can contact me or email Katelyn at kate@katelynaslett.com

"The human body is approximately 60% water, therefore to maintain optimal health, mental alertness and vitality it is essential to drink plenty of water."

'Living Water'

We discovered when we arrived home that our old water filter was no longer doing the job it should do. After some research and a few phone calls we decided to purchase an American made 'Techno Twin'. It was available very close to home, is super compact, easy to install, fits very neatly under the sink, uses the latest technology available and offers many advantages over other economy systems... and available at a very reasonable price.

We added a Pi Bio Life Alkaliser which puts back vital minerals (sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium) as the water runs through 6 different phases of volcanic rocks and minerals. This gives energised, alkalised and ionized 'living water' which acts as a potent anti oxidant.

You can read more about this Pi Bio Life Alkaliser by clicking here.

If you are looking to replace or add a water filter at your place, I can recommend this system - particularly if you add the Pi Bio Life Alkaliser - it's the perfect companion to any filtration system and really makes a difference to the quality of your water.

You can purchase the product on line by contacting Byron or Grace at waterfilterworld. We picked ours up from their shop at Oxley but you can buy online and the delivery fee anywhere in Australia is just $10. (Don't forget to tell them who recommended it to you.)

"Water is essential to flush out waste products and toxins, prevent constipation, optimize liver and kidney function and required for most metabolic processes in your body. "

Food Labelling

There has been a lot of talk lately in Australia about the labelling of foods. Most of the foods on the shelves are processed and have 'additives'. What are these additives doing to us? and what do we understand by 'natural' or 'organic'. Here is a presentation by Food Standards Australia New Zealand on choosing the right stuff - a consumer guide to understanding food labels. I hope you'll find it helpful.

...till next time, don't forget that I love to receive your questions, comments or requests and I'd love you to send your favourite recipe or health tip, so please contact me if you have anything you'd like to contribute or any questions.

Until then keep well and remember

'healthy cells = healthy bodies'
